SID-United States, in partnership with the Global Center for Innovation and Learning (GCFIL) and UNA-NCA, invites you to a thought-provoking book launch event exploring the history, challenges, and future of international development.
Join us for a moderated discussion with authors Michael Gubser and Sam Worthington on Monday, July 14, from 10:30–11:30 AM, followed by in-person networking and book signing.
Michael Gubser—author, history professor at James Madison University, and development practitioner—will discuss his new book, Their Future: A History of Ahistoricism in International Development. In it, Gubser explores why international aid projects often disregard the historical context of the communities they serve, and the consequences of such ahistoricism.
After decades in the field and two years of writing, Sam Worthington has released Prisoners of Hope: Global Action and the Evolving Roles of U.S. NGOs. His book examines the changing role of civil society and provides practical strategies for U.S. and international NGOs to adapt to today’s rapidly evolving political, development, and humanitarian landscapes.
This event is ideal for development professionals, academics, students, and anyone committed to global equity, humanitarianism, and sustainable change. Join us to reflect, engage, and reimagine the past—and future—of international development. There will be book signings after the event.
Register now to attend in-person and online. Registration closes at midnight on July 14.
