Michael Gubser is a professor of history at James Madison University. His research focuses on international development, intellectual history, and modern Europe. He is also an international development practitioner with over 20 years of experience working as a program evaluator, trainer, and proposal writer for various foreign aid organizations. His most recent book, entitled Their Future: A History of Ahistoricism in International Development, was released by Yale University Press in May 2025. With Jerrold Keison, he co-edited the book The Practice of International Development (Routledge, 2018) and co-founded the Center for Development History. He is also the author of two books of modern European history.
