Ms. Canfield currently serves as Senior Director of government relations at The ONE Campaign. ONE is a campaigning and advocacy organization of more than eight million people around the world taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. She leads an experienced team of lobbyists and consultants to place pressure on governments to do more to fight AIDS and other preventable, treatable diseases in the poorest places on the planet, to empower small-holder farmers, to expand access to energy, and to combat corruption so governments are accountable to their citizens. Cofounded by Bono and other activists, ONE is strictly nonpartisan.

Ms. Canfield came to ONE from the pharmaceutical company, AbbVie where she was Senior Director for International Government Affairs. In that role, she led the development and implementation of global initiatives to support the International Government Affairs team and the affiliates. In addition she ensured aligned positions and activity across the international markets and worked directly with commercial operations teams to address global and local issues that may have a business impact.

Ms. Canfield recently served in United States Senate where she served as Deputy Chief Of Staff to Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. In this position, she provided strategic counsel to the Senator across the broad range of issues including, but not limited to his work on the Foreign Relations Committee as well as the Intelligence, Commerce and Small Business committees. In addition, she managed a staff of fourteen legislative assistants and legislative correspondents.

Prior to her return to Capitol Hill, she was the Senior Director for Policy at sanofi-aventis US, the fourth largest pharmaceutical company in the world. At sanofi-aventis, she led a team who provided policy analysis on issues that have an impact on the company’s commercial businesses, as well as provided strategic counsel to the company’s leadership with respect to their policy and political activities in Washington, DC.

Ms. Canfield came to sanofi-aventis from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation where she served as a Senior Program Officer in the Global Health division. At the Gates Foundation, she provided strategic policy, advocacy, and communications counsel to the Foundation’s leadership regarding their relationships within the global health advocacy, policy, and political communities in the United States and in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan and Australia.

Her position with the Gates Foundation follows a distinguished career in the Executive Branch, on Capitol Hill, and in two Presidential campaigns. Ms. Canfield has held various senior positions including Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy at the United States Department of Homeland Security, Counselor to the Secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, and Senior Policy Advisor to the Speaker of the House. In the 2000 campaign, Ms. Canfield served as Domestic Policy Advisor to then- Governor George W. Bush and in the 2008 campaign cycle, she served as Policy Director to Governor Mitt Romney.

She holds a degree in Political Science from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and has studied at Saint Catherine’s College, Oxford University. She has also guest lectured at the Department of Communications Studies at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
