Melissa Silverman was appointed to the Senior Executive Service of the Obama Administration to serve as Communications Director at the Peace Corps. In this role, she works with a creative and dynamic team to develop and implement the agency’s communications and media priorities. She served as the Peace Corps’ Deputy Communications Director from May 2013 to July 2015. Previously, Melissa served as a speechwriter to Senator Chris Coons of Delaware, communications director to former Congressman Ron Klein of Florida, and as a press aide to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and its late chairman, Congressman Tom Lantos of California. In addition to her work on Capitol Hill, Melissa served as deputy communications director at the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, a network of 400 businesses and nongovernmental organizations that support elevating international development and diplomacy. She also has experience working in political communications for candidates and elected officials at the congressional, gubernatorial, and presidential level. She holds a B.A. in foreign affairs and English language and literature from the University of Virginia.
