Emilio Huertas

Emilio Huertas is Lutheran World Relief’s country director in Colombia and a seasoned humanitarian and development professional with experience throughout Colombia and in over a dozen countries in Africa and Asia. Emilio has worked to provide medical services in remote areas of the Amazon and served as country director for Oxfam Great Britain in Chad, supervising a staff of 100 and building capacities of partner organizations working on women rights, rural development and humanitarian response. In the role of humanitarian field manager and public health coordinator for Oxfam, he led large and complex humanitarian interventions through partner organisations and supported programs in disaster risk reduction, gender and promotion of rights in crisis situations. In addition, Emilio serves as an advisor to the Colombian Health Ministry and manages an organic farm in the highlands above Bogota.
