Dr. David Wohl is a physician-clinical researcher who has dedicated his professional career to the clinical care of HIV-infected persons and to HIV-related patient-oriented research. Dr. Wohl’s work has been centered within two major domains: HIV therapeutics, particularly the metabolic effects of antiretrovirals, and the nexus between the epidemics of HIV and incarceration in the US. More recently, his clinical research activities have expanded to include Ebola Virus Disease, its treatment and sequelae. Dr. Wohl is a Site Leader of the UNC AIDS Clinical Trials Unit at Chapel Hill; has 15 years of experience conducting HIV-related patient-oriented research including studies of incarcerated and recently incarcerated individuals, leading to over 80-refereed publications (>25 first/last authored) and recognition as authority in this field; is the founder of the UNC Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) Criminal Justice Working Group; conducted successful procurement of NIH (3 R01 awards) and other funding streams to support research initiatives; is committed to mentorship as evidenced by a history of mentoring new investigators who have gone on to receive independent funding (R01, R03, R21, F30, F32) and publish (>20 first authored mentee papers).; and is the co-Director of the UNC-Duke-CRM Ebola Research Consortium.
