As Director of Outreach and Communication at the Basic Education Coalition (BEC), Beth convenes a diverse group of leading organizations working together to promote global peace and prosperity through education. By leveraging collective technical expertise and combining advocacy efforts, BEC members raise a unified voice to ensure US policy makers support and strengthen education for the developing world.
Beth’s experience in international development began as a grassroots health and community development Peace Corps volunteer in The Gambia, West Africa. Convinced that education was key to empowerment of marginalized populations, Beth joined Teach for America upon her return to the U.S. As a special education and reading teacher for an award-winning public charter school in Hayward, California, Beth developed original curriculum, advocated for students with learning disabilities, and coached cheerleading. Prior to joining BEC, Beth was the Deputy Director of a non-profit organization working to improve access to and quality of education for girls globally.
Beth holds a M.A. in Education and Human Development with a concentration in Education for Development from The George Washington University.
