Anu Kumar, PhD, MPH, is President and CEO of Ipas, an international reproductive health and rights organization that focuses on access to safe abortion and contraception. She provides strategic leadership for more than 500 staff in 18 countries—all guided by Ipas’s commitment to working for a world where every woman and girl can determine her own future. Since joining Ipas in 2002 as part of the senior leadership team, Dr. Kumar has overseen several components of the organization, including development, community engagement and communications—and has been a thought leader for the organization and the field on topics such as abortion stigma, gender equity, and sexual and reproductive health and human rights. Prior to joining Ipas, Dr. Kumar served as Senior Program Officer in the Population and Reproductive Health program of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Prior to that, she worked as a Social Scientist at the World Health Organization’s Reproductive Health Research Division.
