Chris Lawrence has spent twenty years working on how technology and networks can address global development challenges. As Chief Program Officer at Interledger Foundation, he runs grant programs focused on using open web technologies to expand digital financial access worldwide.

His work centers on connecting innovation with practical impact, particularly in underserved communities. He has experience in nonprofit management and advocacy, partnering with organizations globally to create economic opportunities for those who lack access.

Previously, he managed a $100 million fund at Grant for the Web, supporting open web monetization standards that benefit creators in developing countries. He also co-founded Loup, a consultancy that helps development organizations understand their communities better through StoryEngine.io.

His background includes building global networks at Mozilla focused on digital literacy and rights, work that helps people participate more fully in the digital life.

He focuses on cross-sector collaboration and views accessible technology as an important tool for addressing development challenges. Having worked at community and institutional levels, he understands the practical realities of implementing development programs.

Outside of work, Chris is a pop-culture enthusiast, who can't wait to talk about a new movie, book, album or television show. When his mind wanders it's often thinking about ancient civilizations, concepts of near-futurism or just as likely, gnomes. Chris is based in New York, splitting time between Brooklyn and the Western Catskills.
